Nahanni Butte Flood Relief Fund
On June 12, 2012 the community of Nahanni Butte was flooded by local rivers which resulted in the Nahanni residents having to be relocated approximately 140 km away in Fort Simpson. The community is a neighbour of the Prairie Creek mine operation and Canadian Zinc provided on-the-ground support with our Fort Simpson Office. In addition the company partnered with CIBC to create the Nahanni Butte Flood Relief Fund to provide the Nahanni community some financial support for their clean-up and repair needs.
Canadian Zinc Open
The annual Canadian Zinc Open Golf Tournament started in 2003 and has grown to be one of the largest attended golf events in the Northwest Territories. The tournament takes place over two days in early August and provides a great opportunity for local residence to interact with senior CZN Management.
In 2009, Nahanni Butte Dene Band (NBDB) and CZN created an annual winter carnival held each January for the youth of our Project’s nearest community. NBDB named the event “Winterfest” with the slogan “Working Together For Our Youth”. Some of the events included floor hockey, badminton, and dodge ball.
Nahanni Butte Community BBQ
The annual Nahanni Community BBQ provides an outdoor event for Nahanni Butte residents and the occasional Nahanni National Park Reserve visitors.
Fort Simpson Community BBQ
The annual Fort Simpson Community BBQ is held at the recreation centre and a portion of the BBQ is provided to the Stanley Isaiah Seniors Centre.
Northwest Territories GeoScience Forum
CZN has been a part of the annual GeoScience Forum in Yellowknife since 1994 as a guest speaker, exhibitor and also participant with local school assignment activities.
Thomas Simpson School Breakfast Day
In 2012 ,CZN and Liidlii Kue First Nation provided a breakfast at the regional High School.
Fort Simpson Pulsars Soccer Team
CZN sponsored the ladies soccer team, which finished 2nd in the Northwest Territories Championships.
Nahanni Butte Badminton Team
CZN sponsored the Nahanni Butte Badminton Team, which produced one age group division champion.
CZN has contributed items to support community recreation including floor hockey equipment, tables, chairs and a scoreboard for the new Nahanni Butte Gymnasium.
Seven Spruce Golf Course
CZN provides annual sponsorship of Fort Simpson's Seven Spruce Golf Course and Hole #8.
Dehcho Leadership Assembly
CZN has been invited to provide Project updates at regional aboriginal leadership assemblies.
Regional Fort Simpson Office
In 2005, CZN established a regional office in Fort Simpson.
