NEW CLAIMS STAKED AT PRAIRIE CREEK

Vancouver, British Columbia, August 10, 1999:

Canadian Zinc Corporation (the "Company") is pleased to announce the acquisition of new mineral claims in the Northwest Territories. The Company has now significantly enhanced its mineral land holdings in the Prairie Creek minesite area with the recent staking of 4 large mineral claim blocks, referred to as the Gate 1-4 Claims (the "Gate Claims"), comprising 3741 hectares of land.

The Gate Claims contain geological features that are similar to those in the main zone at the Company's 100% owned Prairie Creek minesite which contains an independently calculated resource of 11.6 million tonnes of 12.5 % zinc, 10.1% lead and 161 g/t silver. The resource is comprised of both vein and stratiform style mineralization. The Gate Claims are in close proximity to the existing minesite road on the west side of Prairie Creek.

A mapping, prospecting and geochemical exploration program, mobilized from the minesite, is now underway on the Gate Claims. The Company's mineral landholdings in the Prairie Creek area now totals over 11,000 hectares.
