Mineralization at Prairie Creek is of two types.  Vein mineralization, is typified by high grades in both lead and zinc at around 12% - 15% each, with high silver values.  Vein mineralization is typically from 3-8 meters thick and dips at approximately 70° - 90° and can be traced over at least 12 kilometers.

Underlying Stratabound mineralization was intersected in 1992 some 200 meters below surface and subsequently drilled in volume. It is typically flatter lying being up to 30 meters thick and extending over 60 meters wide.

Stratabound mineralization is cleaner than vein mineralization, containing less penalty elements, but also having less lead and silver, but similar zinc levels at around 12% - 14%.

In 1992, Canadian Zinc, then trading as San Andreas Resources, took over the project from Nanasivik Mines and worked to increase the project resource from the 1.9 million tonne figure at the time of the Hunts, to the current resource, confirmed by MRDI in 1998, which contains 11.8 million tonnes grading 12.5% zinc, 10.1% lead, 161 grams of silver and 0.41% copper.
